from 5:30-12:00 today, and i know i was awake at 4:00. i can hardly
remember anything i did this morning except grab a surprisingly delicious peanut butter
powerbar. working at starbucks is relatively
fun; the time goes by quickly and pretty much 99% of the customers are
all really nice. there are; however, a lot of nasty guys who hit on me
and they all ask me if i'm chinese. it's so uncomfortable. some guy
held up the line today and made 6 people wait because he kept talking
to me. aside from that, my co-workers are cool, i feel like a pro
barista, i have at least 10 regular customers, and getting extra cash
in tips is always fantastic. i'm so tired i can't even think about
doing anything but going to sleep.

as i'm writing this, i'm talking to my friend saurabh (who's leaving
for carnegie mellon in a week) and in retrospect, i regret not hanging
out with my friends from school more this summer. if i had used my time
more wisely, i wouldn't complain, but all i've done this summer is rock
climb, work, and sit around. i wish i had put off moping around until
september. by then, everyone would have already left for college and
i'd be one of the few left behind. my mom harasses me every night about
being unproductive, going out too much, and coming home too late. i
argue with her about it, but i have to admit i haven't spent much time
this summer at home or with my parents.

after hours of listening to my mom complain and whine about my
undeclared major, i've come to a (tentative) decision to major in
biology and later on enter nursing school. i plan on double majoring
and doing something like economics, but i haven't decided. plus, i suck
at econ.

davis starts at the end of september; and as much as i love fremont,
i'm ecstatic to head over there. although i was terribly homesick
during summer advising, i'm pretty confident that once i move in to my
dorm room, i'll be fine. i am taking general chemistry, calculus for
biology, self and society, and a freshmen seminar about telugu. (if you
don't know what telugu is, i don't either, so look it up on wiki.) i
wish davis would tell me who my roommate
will be so i could look her up on facebook already.

besides all this, i've lost a lot of weight and gotten a teensy
bit taller so...hurrah! my goal is to lose the fifteen before i
actually become a freshman.
Saturday, July 01, 2006

city beach now has a 3 month summer special for 99 dollars and i think
i'm going to sign up for it. i went with eddie yesterday to livermore
to a camping store and he bought me a harness. god has blessed me with
such amazing friends, honestly.

i've been all over the place this week. i went to berkeley on spare the
air day (monday), stayed over at inning's place, came home, then drove
to berkeley the next day. i went to valley fair on thursday to look for
birthday presents (that was completely unsuccessful), and finally i
went to stanford and livermore yesterday.

i'm stoked to finally start working and so i'm guessing the rest of my
summer is going to be pretty much working at starbucks, rock climbing,
prayer meetings, and i predict constant visits to the pool while wilson
is working.
parents. my mom wanted me to read some chinese article to her about why
jewish people are successful and how they make so much money. after i
finished the article, my mom and i started to eat.

and then it dawned on me; my parents happiness is dependent on how much
money they can earn. my parents have a very set routine everyday; they
go to work, come home, do housework, and spend the rest of the night
monitoring stocks. when they get together with their friends, all they
talk about is how much money they can make by doing this or that.
midway through our conversation, i blurted out to my mom how was
pathetic it was that she depended on the amount of money she made to be
happy. (my dad is a bit better than my mom; he likes to study and
learn, so he still takes classes @ mission college, kinda reminds me of
ms. allen) to my dismay, she actually agreed me and her excuse was that
she was getting older and didn't how know how much longer she would
live. maybe money is more than just green paper, but it's discouraging
to see how possibly the most materialistic thing in the world can be
the factor to all my mother's emotions. and i pointed out to her that
she makes money to save and treasure it, rarely spending it on anything
for herself besides a few accessories or pieces of clothing. i said,
"you don't do anything for yourself. you have no hobbies and you don't
do anything because you like doing it." and she said "i like making
money."

and then we started to argue about how i spent too much time at church
and that all the time i spent at church took up the time i had to study
or do housework. the latter is true, but who am i kidding, i know i
wouldn't study even if i had the time. every time my mom and i have an
argument about something besides schoolwork, it's about how i spend too
much time at church. even after millions of conversations, my mom still
doesn't believe me when i say that church is not intended to teach me
how to pick up after myself or be clean or be self-sufficient.
